First Grade
Canyon Elementary
Field Experience
This was not a normal day to help in the classroom. Canyon Elementary has an annual "Go Green" week. Each day of the week is devoted to something different to help the children to learn more about taking care of the earth and themselves.
On this particular day the students were invited to run a mile. When I arrived to the school the teacher was revealed to see me, I had come prepared to run. She was glad to have me take the students from her class, who had signed up to run, while she remained with the other students, who would be at the finish line to cheer on the runners.
I was excited to see how this all would happen. I had around 15 students with me. I needed to remind the boys while walking through the halls to keep their hands to themselves, as well as to stay in the designated area until the race started. Once outside and getting ready to start, one of the girls got really nervous. I assured her I would be with her the entire time. One of the runners was my own daughter, who was ready to take off and leave me in her dust.
The school was very organized and even had the police involved to safety concerns. The race started and it was a bit chaotic, but fun! The one little girl who was nervous, a little over halfway through the run realized she was fine and could finish the race. I believe everyone who signed up to run finish the race.
At the end of the race, every student got a Popsicle. It was a fun day to attend for my field work experience.
